Wheels On The Bus

My first Craiglist purchase was a Little People Bus for Ethan. I got a great deal. He loves singing the song “The Wheels On The Bus” and does the motions with it really well. I just knew he would love it. The bus sings, lights up and makes honking noises… cute, right? I thought so. Ethan loved it, too… at first. He couldn’t get enough of pushing the buttons and opening and closing the doors. We kept singing the song over again. Great fun. Day two of having the bus, Ethan decided the only fun way to play with the bus is to sit on it. For a 19 month old, this makes perfect sense. He kept saying “sit, sit, sit” while crouching over it. It didn’t seem to work as he had planned. I tried to console him and encourage him to let the little toys ride the bus, but I don’t think he liked that idea. Then he had a nap. Once he woke up he was able to conquer his task of riding on the bus. Oh, the mind of a toddler is fascinating to me!

A Traveling We Will Go

Ethan and I tagged along with the grandparents for the 12 plus hour trip to GA for Abbie’s two year old birthday. It was well worth it. The kiddos absolutely loved seeing each other. After talking on the phone everyday, I think they were ready to get to play! We were so glad to have Aunt Janis and Uncle Marvin there, too. It was a great weekend and Abbie had a great birthday. I love my family!

Cool Man

This is from our trip to GA with the grandparents. It was Ethan’s first experience with sunglasses. I think he is a fan! I’m pretty sure those are the same sunglasses my brother and I played with when we were little. Can’t believe they lasted so long!

Life According To Ethan: Seconds, Please

Some decisions should not be rushed… as with food. When trying something new, just go ahead and spit it right out onto the table. Feel free to spend some time in thought. Deliberate a while. Ask yourself these difficult questions like, “Is this honestly good enough to try that exact same bite for a second time?”

Happy Half-Birthday

Ethan is one and a half years old today. Hard to believe how quickly time flies. He is one happy boy. Especially today for some reason was happier than usual. Maybe he knew it was his half-birthday. So, at 18 months Ethan is:

Walking well and trying to run. His run looks more like a fast walk while leaning his head down.

Crawls and climbs into all sorts of things. We have yet to climb onto something really dangerous, but I’m sure that will come soon.

Builds towers with his blocks, fits objects into containers, and tries to find lids to match them. Loves to pour and scoop sand and water at his table outside.

Showing more and more interest in coloring. Before, he would rather play with the crayon instead of coloring with it. His new interest makes this arts and crafts Momma very happy!

Loves looking at books and pointing to pictures. While we read I usually ask him where things are on the page and he is very accurate at finding them. It’s so encouraging to know that his comprehension is strong.

Saying more words. We are up to about 10 words (or parts of words) that he says regularly and that Nguyen and I can understand. So far – dadda, mamma, mo (more), melmo (Elmo), bye-bye, Bible, bubble, cup, up, down and he’s working on cheese.

Becoming more and more independent each day. He is going through the typical mood swings of toddlerhood accompanied by the occasional tantrum, throwing of toys and wailing on the ground. We have been blessed that these have not been public demonstrations as of yet. This Momma and Daddy are trying their best to hold their ground and be consistent. Parenting is not for the faint of heart.

Despite a few growing pains, Ethan is our daily joy and comic relief. He loves to cuddle and laugh and be silly. He is a blessing!

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for in the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galations 6:9

Up…… Down

Ethan decided to be really passionate about directions during lunch today.
