A Traveling We Will Go
Ethan and I tagged along with the grandparents for the 12 plus hour trip to GA for Abbie’s two year old birthday. It was well worth it. The kiddos absolutely loved seeing each other. After talking on the phone everyday, I think they were ready to get to play! We were so glad to have Aunt Janis and Uncle Marvin there, too. It was a great weekend and Abbie had a great birthday. I love my family!
Birthday Party
We had a small family party for Ethan this evening to celebrate his official birthday. Balloons, party hats, cake, and presents… what more could a one year old little boy ask for! We are so blessed to have family who love our child.
Ethan Turns One
Ethan is officially one year old today. That means I’ve been a mom for a whole year. Thinking back on what life was like a year ago is just wild. I was so naive. I thought I knew, but I did not have the first clue as to what motherhood really was. I had no idea of the sacrifices, the time restraints, the sleeplessness, the mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion that comes with motherhood. I was also totally unprepared for the joy that comes from seeing him laugh and learn something new; for the lost feeling I have when he visits his grandparents and I’m home by myself; for the completeness I feel when the three of us are playing together; or for how quickly he would grow from tiny infant to rolypoly baby to now, almost a toddler. To say this year has changed us would be an understatement. But how do you add a member to your family and stay the same. I’m so proud to be Ethan’s mom and I thank God everyday that I get to spend my time loving him and teaching him. This year has been an exciting and ever changing journey. As difficult as it has been, I wouldn’t change it. Little Ethan, I look forward to what God will do with us over the next year. You are precious and I love you!
These pics are of birthday pancakes this morning!
Giraffe BBQ Part 2
Here are more pictures of the party. The little ones had great fun playing in the pool and in Ethan’s new wagon he got from Gran Gran and Granddaddy.
Giraffe BBQ Part 1
The long awaited party day finally arrived. We spent the morning busily finishing up little details. The desserts were baked, cupcakes iced, giraffe snacks dished and the giraffe birthday shirt made. I was very proud of myself for actually following through with the ideas I had for this party and it came out great. The best part ended up not being the decorations, but the wonderful time we had visiting with family and friends that joined us to celebrate two important birthdays. We are blessed to have people in our lives to celebrate special occasions. I’m so glad Ethan can look back on these memories and know how much he is loved!
P.S. Thanks Uncle Eric for helping ice cupcakes. You rock!
Family Time
As we were getting ready for the big Ethan and Nguyen birthday bash, we set aside some time to celebrate dad’s birthday and just hang out. Eric and Leanna came in town so this was one of the few times a year my whole family is together. Everybody had a great time! We ate awesome mandarin orange birthday cake, played with toys and laughed. Special memories!
Nguyen’s Birthday
We celebrated Nguyen’s 30th birthday with family and friends. We had a cookout, opened some presents and had a great time.
Ethan Le Nguyen – The First Week
OK so it hasn’t been quite a week. Ethan is 5 days old today! It’s hard to believe so much has happened in just a few days.
Happy Birthday
YAY! Today Nguyen turned another year older. I can’t believe we are getting so old. It seems just yesterday we were dating and were like little kids… so young… so free. Ahhh…
Despite our old age we were able to have an enjoyable day! We celebrated just the two of us (Ethan seems to enjoy where he’s at for now). Nguyen had a hankering for ribs, so we dined out at our favorite BBQ place. Yum, Yum. I baked a special cake, butter pecan rum cake with cream cheese icing. It turned out really nice and was not too sweet – just the way he likes it. I was going to decorate with balloons because balloons are just what you do for a birthday. Is it even considered a birthday without balloons? I’m not sure. So, I bought balloons and got home to start decorating, but sadly, what I did not realize is that the lung capacity of a nine month pregnant woman is rather weak. I tried and tried but could not blow up the balloons… not even one. I stretched and pulled and thought “This is it… I will go into labor trying to blow up these blasted balloons!” I even tried the little electric air pump, but it too was not strong enough. Oh, well. At least we had them, though they are not as fun or festive when not inflated. All in all, I think Nguyen had a nice day.
Even though I am very ready to have this baby, I’m kinda glad Ethan didn’t come today. Shared birthdays seem so fun, but I would be afraid that Nguyen would loose his special day. I was lucky to grow-up with birthdays being really special days. I have a lot of good birthday memories and I have tried to continue the tradition with Nguyen. Looking at the time it seems pretty safe to say that Ethan will not share his Daddy’s birthday. They can each have their own special day.
Oh happy day, husband! Let’s do this again next year!
