Ethan Attack
GranGran and Grandaddy Biggs were in town, everyone was outside, it was a nice day… so I thought it was a good time to practice manually working my camera’s video controls. Maybe I should start with inanimate objects. I didn’t really get far past turning my camera on.

Ethan Vs. The Water Hose
This morning we took advantage of the low humidity and enjoyed the backyard. Ethan was super curious. We try to go swimming often so he can get used to the water but he is not very interested most of the time. Today, however, out of nowhere he crawls to the pool, crawls in with shoes socks and all, sits there for about 20 seconds, and crawls out. I guess he just wanted to cool off. Wish I had the camera ready for that! Then we moved on to the water hose. I think the pictures captured it accurately. He has such a focused look on his face. He’s determined to figure out how everything works!
I can’t wait for Fall, even though I am doubting if Houston actually has seasons that change temperature. It seems like the heat will never go away.

Mercer Arboretum & Botanic Garden
Our goal was to take one year old portraits. We found a great place, but didn’t take into consideration the insane humidity. So, we have some cute sweaty photos! We will try again earlier in the day so it won’t be so hot. I feel motivated to have one year old pictures that don’t look sweaty. Maybe I’m just being picky. I feel like the grown-up Ethan would thank me!
The gardens were really nice. Tons of little trails branch off the main path and wind through the plants and wooded areas. Streams, ponds and bogs are spread out with quaint little benches and swings on which to enjoy the view. It is a place we will definitely go back to. Oh, and its free!

Birthday Party
We had a small family party for Ethan this evening to celebrate his official birthday. Balloons, party hats, cake, and presents… what more could a one year old little boy ask for! We are so blessed to have family who love our child.
Ethan Turns One
Ethan is officially one year old today. That means I’ve been a mom for a whole year. Thinking back on what life was like a year ago is just wild. I was so naive. I thought I knew, but I did not have the first clue as to what motherhood really was. I had no idea of the sacrifices, the time restraints, the sleeplessness, the mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion that comes with motherhood. I was also totally unprepared for the joy that comes from seeing him laugh and learn something new; for the lost feeling I have when he visits his grandparents and I’m home by myself; for the completeness I feel when the three of us are playing together; or for how quickly he would grow from tiny infant to rolypoly baby to now, almost a toddler. To say this year has changed us would be an understatement. But how do you add a member to your family and stay the same. I’m so proud to be Ethan’s mom and I thank God everyday that I get to spend my time loving him and teaching him. This year has been an exciting and ever changing journey. As difficult as it has been, I wouldn’t change it. Little Ethan, I look forward to what God will do with us over the next year. You are precious and I love you!
These pics are of birthday pancakes this morning!
Giraffe BBQ Part 2
Here are more pictures of the party. The little ones had great fun playing in the pool and in Ethan’s new wagon he got from Gran Gran and Granddaddy.
Giraffe BBQ Part 1
The long awaited party day finally arrived. We spent the morning busily finishing up little details. The desserts were baked, cupcakes iced, giraffe snacks dished and the giraffe birthday shirt made. I was very proud of myself for actually following through with the ideas I had for this party and it came out great. The best part ended up not being the decorations, but the wonderful time we had visiting with family and friends that joined us to celebrate two important birthdays. We are blessed to have people in our lives to celebrate special occasions. I’m so glad Ethan can look back on these memories and know how much he is loved!
P.S. Thanks Uncle Eric for helping ice cupcakes. You rock!
Family Time
As we were getting ready for the big Ethan and Nguyen birthday bash, we set aside some time to celebrate dad’s birthday and just hang out. Eric and Leanna came in town so this was one of the few times a year my whole family is together. Everybody had a great time! We ate awesome mandarin orange birthday cake, played with toys and laughed. Special memories!
Wall-O-Fishies
We had an adventure going to the Downtown Aquarium with Yen and Ty. After struggling to find parking and avoiding additional wrong turns, we finally got to see the aquarium. They had a few large tanks of fish and we got to touch sting rays. The boys really enjoyed the train ride through the shark tank. They also enjoyed the white tiger. Overall, this is not really a very good aquarium for the cost, but we ended up having a good time.
